If it's wrong, correct it!

Posted on 7th October 2010

Sorry it's been a while since my last blog, but I have been on holiday, which is where I got the inspiration for this week's thought.

I don't mean to be rude as the menu in question was originally in French so English isn't their native tongue, but there's still something to be learned from this.

If you spot an error, correct it!

It really is as simple as that. OK, if you've spent money sending something to print and you can't afford to re-do it, then maybe you just have to swallow it, but in this case, it's the cost of one A4 page in a home printer.

Correct your error properly!

As you can see, by bodging over the error, it highlights it to everyone (and a rather comical, potential double entendre error it is). Did you even notice that Chantilly cream was incorrectly spelt? No, too busy laughing at a banana slit I imagine.

It's not just books, magazines and 'published' items that need to be proofread. Everything that will be read by more than the author needs to be checked; from menus and flyers to websites and posters, it really does pay to be pedantic.
